What Should I Wear for My Salon Appointments?

Look Good, Feel Good

One of our most frequently asked questions for brides embarking on their first salon appointment is,

“What should I wear?”

The answer is super simple: come in clothing that is easy to get on and off, like a sundress or a pair of jeans and a top. Leave your complicated jumpsuit or cute overalls at home. Bring a pair of heels with you if you’re planning on wearing them for the wedding so you can get a sense of hemlines in the gowns you’re trying on.

Another tip:

Don’t wear colored underwear. Try to stick to a pair of underwear that is close to your skin tone. Same for your bra—strapless if you can!—which can help you better visualize the overall look. And please ladies, for Pete’s sake, do wear some undies! Most salons have this as store policy, plus it’s just the respectful thing to do as other women will be trying on the same gowns as you.

What about your face and hair?

We recommend our clients put a little effort into their look for the day in the hair and makeup department. If you roll out of bed with a messy bun—which we do 90% of the time, with zero judgment—and straight to your salon appointment, that usually cute “mess” may make you feel less confident in the fitting room.

Same thing for your makeup routine. We are NOT recommending you go get a professional updo or a full face of pageant makeup though. We are recommending, however, that you run a brush through your hair and maybe put on some mascara. Just come feeling pretty. As silly as that sounds, it really can make your try-on experience better since you will be able to visualize what you will look like on your wedding day.

Amp it Up

If you have the time and money, you can even hire a service like GlamSquad to come to your house to do your hair and makeup for the shopping day. What a fun way to start off a day of trying on what could be THE ONE!

If you don’t have the time or money to hire someone to come blow out your hair, or if you’re rolling straight into the salon after a 12-hour shift, no worries. Pull your hair back into a ponytail and run a wipe over your face so your natural beauty can shine through. That’s what is most beautiful at the end of the day, anyways.
